Privacy Policy
Plain-language summary: Literacy Arcade is designed to minimize student data collection. Students do not create accounts, log in, or provide email addresses to use student-facing games and activities. Teacher accounts, if offered, are optional and intended for adult educators, tutors, interventionists, and parents.
1. Overview
Literacy Arcade provides literacy games and teacher tools for classroom, tutoring, intervention, and at-home reading practice. We are committed to limiting unnecessary data collection, especially from students.
2. Student Use
Students do not have accounts on Literacy Arcade. Students are not required to provide names, email addresses, usernames, passwords, or other personal information to use student-facing games and activities.
Some tools may allow a teacher or user to type words, passages, reading scores, student names, or other information directly into a tool. Unless a teacher account/save feature is specifically used, this information is used only within the tool during that session and is not intentionally stored by Literacy Arcade on our servers.
Teachers and adults should avoid entering full student names or sensitive student information into any tool. If a student identifier is needed, teachers should use initials, first names, student numbers, or another classroom identifier.
3. Teacher Accounts and Saved Content
Literacy Arcade may offer optional teacher accounts so adult users can save word lists, settings, lesson materials, or other teacher-created content. Students will not have accounts.
If a teacher chooses to sign in with Google, Literacy Arcade may receive limited Google account information such as the teacher’s name, email address, and profile image, depending on the permissions granted. This information is used to provide account access and save teacher-created materials.
Saved content is intended for teacher-created instructional materials, such as word lists or tool settings. Teachers should not save sensitive student information, full student names, student records, disability information, grades, or other protected student data in Literacy Arcade.
4. Information We May Collect
Depending on how the site is used, Literacy Arcade may collect or process:
- Teacher account information, such as name, email address, and profile image, if a teacher chooses to sign in with Google.
- Teacher-created saved content, such as saved word lists, lesson lists, tool settings, or feedback.
- Messages or contact information submitted voluntarily through forms, email, or beta sign-up pages.
- Usage and device information through analytics tools, such as pages visited, approximate location, browser type, device type, referring site, and general site activity.
5. Google Analytics and Cookies
Literacy Arcade uses Google Analytics to understand how visitors use the site, such as which pages are visited and which tools are used most often. This helps us improve the website and decide which literacy tools to build next.
Google Analytics may use cookies or similar technologies to measure site activity. We do not use Google Analytics to collect student names, student email addresses, classroom rosters, or student records.
6. How Information Is Used
Information may be used to operate and improve Literacy Arcade, provide optional teacher account access and saved teacher-created content, respond to feedback or beta requests, understand general site usage, and maintain site security.
7. Information Sharing
Literacy Arcade does not sell personal information. We may use trusted third-party services, such as Google Sign-In, Google Analytics, website hosting providers, or form tools, to operate and improve the website. These providers may process limited information according to their own privacy practices.
8. Children’s Privacy
Literacy Arcade is designed to avoid collecting personal information from children. Students do not create accounts and are not asked to provide email addresses or other account information. If we learn that personal information from a child has been collected unintentionally, we will take reasonable steps to delete it.
